The Deep Data Research Center is dedicated to applying its expertise in the science and ethics of genomics to build a new collaborative model of science focused on transforming the practice of medicine.

This new paradigm of patient-centered medicine gives doctors the ability to monitor the entire biological profile of individuals, vastly improving disease prediction and prevention, and the treatment of conditions such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, schizophrenia, and many others.

Software Developer 1 - #89167

(1 Year Fixed Term) in School of Medicine, Stanford, California, United States

The Snyder lab in the Department of Genetics at Stanford University is seeking a Software Developer 1 to execute all programming tasks, including programming, analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, modifying, and maintaining iOS/Android apps. Work on systems of small to moderate size and complexity or segments of larger systems.

Duties include:

  • Assess user needs and requirements.
  • Design and develop iOS/Android apps
  • Maintain and improve existing iOS/Android apps.
  • Troubleshoot and solve technical problems with the new/existing iOS/Android apps
  • Design and implement user and operations training programs.
  • Document changes in software for end users.
  • Follow team software development methodology.
  • Attend meetings with users and handle requirement gathering.
  • Contribute to published articles, and presentations

* – Other duties may also be assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of mobile programming (iOS and Android development).
  • Preferably experienced in Swift /Java.
  • Strong knowledge of Python programming language.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript and building and managing online surveys and databases (e.g., REDCap).
  • Familiarity with wearable devices.
  • Familiarity in containerization technologies.
  • Familiarity with major cloud providers: Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Current knowledge of latest software and design standards.
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for technical applications.
  • Knowledge of and ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
  • Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in user and/or operations procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of software engineering principles.
  • Strong knowledge of at least one programming language.

  • Maintain and improve existing cloud-based solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and solve technical cloud-based problems.
  • Design and implement user and operations training programs.
  • Document changes in software for end users.
  • Follow team software development methodology.
  • Serve as technical resource with respect to surveys and databases.
  • Contribute to published articles.
  • Attend meetings with users and handle requirement gathering.
  • Building and managing online surveys and databases (e.g., REDCap).

  • Strong knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, JavaScript.
  • Strong knowledge of Python programming language.

  • Familiarity with bioinformatics workflow management platforms (e.g., Cromwell, Nextflow).

  • Anonymized genetic data sharing

Management of Big Data Repositories

  • Data reproducibility and provenance
  • Efficient storage management (e.g., compression algorithms)
  • Database management systems (e.g., NoSQL and graph databases)

AI/ML in Biology and Healthcare

  • Deep learning paradigms (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras)

Interns will work with the Deep Data Research Center for up to 3 months and be paid a stipend.
